This week, Adult Contemporary presents Calder Kusmierski Singer's TOKYO FIREBOMBING (LOVE BURNING UP). From 8 Different Rooms, an electro-ambient compilation of music written for video and dance, these pieces traverse themes of loss, war, fear and fantasy. The feature track emerged from a score to a short film about a couple who falls in love as they are hiding from the fire bombings that razed much of Tokyo in World War II. Following its structure, the piece can be interpreted in three sections: high ambitions in a calm beginning, the unexpected capacity of murder, and the conclusive attempt to return home and establish a new normal.

Calder Kusmierski Singer is a Brooklyn-based artist, composer and Oberlin Conservatory graduate. Alongside a visual practice influenced by medieval illuminations, japanese prints and manga, he creates electronic scores for dance, theatre and film, including music for his own butoh-inspired performances. Singer will be presenting a performance showcase at Rare Gallery on January 31st.
